The marauder is a combat specialist whose weapon of choice is the greataxe, a fearsome arm long associated with Eorzea's pirates. Their approach to battle is one of brute force, as they rely on pure strength and good steel to crush enemies and sunder weapons.

They are highly sought after for their ferocity and intimidating presence, and are often employed to hunt down monsters plaguing the land or to turn the tide of battle between warring nations. Skilled marauders have been known to take on entire packs of slavering beasts and emerge with little more than a few scrapes and bruises.

Marauders are fearsome frontline combatants whose arsenal of actions enables them to strengthen their offensive and defensive prowess, whichever the situation demands. Charging into battle with a massive axe, the marauder quickly draws the attention of enemies, and turns their attacks against them.

Prior to the Cataclysm, the Marauder's Guild didn't serve Limsa Lominsa in any official capacity. Marauders were trained by the crew of the Astalicia, a ship that acted as base of operations for Captain Hyllfyr and the Executioners.

Renown played a large role in the guild, so much so that unless you have committed deeds worth of note, few within the guild were likely to even know your name. As such, the tutoring of new prospects fell to the lowest ranking members of the guild, that and the roots of most members cause rivalries that occasionally evolve into outright hostility in the lower ranks.

Members of the Marauder’s Guild became part of the ship Astalicia’s crew, The Executioners, and part of their duties were to assist their Captain in the Trident, a three-part ship race, the winner of which would become the new Admiral of Limsa Lominsa.

Each year, as the Trident grew closer, the Executioners would attempt to pawn off their prospects to other crews, ending up with fewer hands to grab at the eventual loot, and fewer people to share in the power that comes with the titles of Admiral and Knights of the Barracuda. However, before joining another crew, should a prospect find one on their own without any help from the Executioners, they require the blessing of the Captain of the Astalicia and the Executioners; Hyllfyr. Those that found themselves with crews that have displeased Hyllfyr in one way or another, had a tendency to end up bruised and battered if they were lucky, others wound up in the gutter, to be scavenged by pests.

Most Marauders lived as pirates, even though the Barracudas attempted to keep them on a tight leash, should a prospect find themselves assisting the Barracudas in any way, this would mean a one-way ticket to universal disdain amongst the other pirates. This was despite how each crew sought to win the Trident and become the new Barracudas themselves.
