@joshua david This post made me LOL irl. I look forward to hearing any opportunistic responses in the next cast. ^^ I will keep listening. ^^
@Fybrile Thanks for the Reply I really appreciate it, I am interested to see what you come up with to be the TOP! ^^ I was going to reply to the rest of your post but now all I can think of is the Family Guy episode where they parody Indiana Jones film Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Peter is saying "TOP men." lol ... Your observation about State of the Realm I think is still accurate Mr. Happy and Sly the Fox can feel one sided sometimes. lol Limit Break Radio has been described as a "morning radio show" and can get so off topic sometimes but are occasionally the only podcast of the week that is vocally critical of SE because they want to see the game do well. If I recall correctly I think the Moogle dildos was Sequence Break, that sounds like their style. I've never heard of Crystal Core, is it still around? I need moar podcasts to fill friday listening. ^^ If nothing else listening to the other podcasts helps to get you a broader sense of what the community is thinking or feeling. I am curious about the other communities in ffxiv in regards to the Japanese or German or Frennch ect. podcasts and what they are saying or thinking about where we are as players in the game...? I've googled and can't come up with much if any language barrier podcasts. Any insight? I think the unique aspects of the show are there (you all jive well together as hosts and people are respectful of when others are talking, plus bloopers ^^), just in need of some more listeners. I recall the very first episode of The Echo I listened to I believe it was @Kolossus said something about all of the listeners, and @Fybrile responded "Yea, all three of em." My thought was "Awww, no bueno. ; ;" I am on linux when I work so the only easy to listen is to get the show is through Rhythmbox. Unfortunately it is not like iTunes or Youtube where I have a like button to hit, I am listening but I don't think it is tracked. Thanks for responding to my show frequency question, I figured the lack of times matching up for people was a thing that hindered the making of the show. Hopefully it will get better in the coming shows. As for the hosts conundrum, I would say five is very easily doable, six is where it gets tough for people to get a word in edgewise if there are time constraints. There is a bonus to more hosts though with more people comes more discussions, with more points of view there are better ways to express one's own opinion. It makes for a longer podcast, sure, but if interesting I am all for it. I support The Echo going to five hosts I don't think it will be an issue. I do however agree that you should do no less than 3 though, as it does help to spur the conversation forward with a third wheel. In any event, Ep.18 was well balanced and well done, I only wish the audio on the interview was a little better but that was uncontrollable. I will be listening, looking for that ever elusive rare host item drop. ~Cheers! Pog Jing of Balmung P.S. I really like the forum smilies
Unfortunately, Crystal Core ended with the launch of 1.0. It was pretty much THE FFXIV podcast during those good old pre-1.0 speculation and high-hopes days. I guess that kind of atmosphere around the game really gave it a special feeling. That and Brian's ability to mispronounce most words. He's kind of like Sword that way (have you heard Sword trying to pronounce "Eorzea" lately? Makes me smile every time!) That's a great topic, about how other players feel about the game. WTB a Japanese/European player to guest host with us in an upcoming episode to speak for everyone on your sides of the various ponds. And... yeah... I wished the audio was better too with Caimie. That's the gamble with guests - never know what type of mic they have, and don't have the heart to tell them "NO HEADSETS/NO CELL PHONES!" beforehand... (hopefully, that one counted, hehe). Anyways, thanks for the kind words PogJing! As I said, it's great to hear from a listener!
oops, guess i failed on both of those. but then again, anything would have been better than the Campbell's Soup can i used on the first show.
If these are still making it into the podcast then awesome else well Tuesday I was able to find a good party and run through Coil from T1 all the way to T11 (I know these are dated now and the echo and such but I want to know I did them at least once). And then yesterday I finally level 60 with my Scholar and finished off the Summoner storyline. These are huge milestones for me as I have been dragging my heels on things and running on idle just running dailies and grinding poetics stupid Anima Weapon But Tuesday & Wednesday at least me feeling with some level of achievement.
Well the good news Gothic is we're still doing the podcast, unfortunately we've been hitting some production snags and had little news to really put together a quality episode lately. However, the upcoming news for 3.2 is looking promising (if the minimum game size increase is of any indication), so keep your bootstraps tight for a patch episode.
Hmmm so if we have news that seems[TO US] important we just post it? Or is it like a achievement based news like for example someone beat a dungeon with shining colors or sumfink like that?
Yea think the idea is the stuff that you personally find news relevant to you, of course it seems they are still having production issues and we are beginning to miss them
If the current members of the podcast don't want/can't to do it anymore, then why not re-create it with new members who do?
Well if we're being honest, I think a majority of the team has quit or gone on an undetermined hiatus period. I still play and I'm willing to collab with whomever wishes to pick up where we left off last, but Fyb was pretty much running the thing for the most part so we'll need someone with recording software and some editing experience.
Anyone is free to make a podcast, and we would be happy to host any FFXIV podcasts here at the Realm. But, the Echo is a property that belongs to a few individuals. I would not accept a podcast that takes our brand without the consent of the majority of the cast. That being said, at least four of us have said recently that we would be interested in making a return if there's interest. But, to be frank, we don't see the interest. We barely saw engagement when we were recording, let alone after a year hiatus. If there's interest, and if we get a good idea for how to make it interesting and relevant, most of us would probably come back in a heart beat. As far as I know, only one member has quit the game.
Yea it's kinda weird you mention the whole engagement thing, I actually listened to the whole series in a few days been the first FF14 podcast I actually enjoyed. I was considering doing something myself for a while but on a very different basis as in randomly finding a player of FF14 and then chatting about their experiences, how long they'd been playing, why, weird stories etc. Just didn't have the hardware to do it at the time (And now don't have the time personally with various game development projects). It would give something different each week as each week would be entirely different. You could then add in regular parts of the show around the interview. Meh just my two cents anyways.
I did go on hiatus briefly. I have been playing, again, since March & also mentioned this via our convos back in March. I am still willing to do the podcasts. I really enjoyed doing them. The cast is awesomely fun to hang out with & the addition of Joshua was excellent! On the same token, we can enjoy the whole process (well, Fybrile really makes it all work and has dedicated the most to pre & post production), but if we feel like there is no interest in it, it's hard to expect someone to WANT to put in that much time & effort for something that we find fun. I'd be happy just sitting in Skype with you all & bullshitting for a few hours (no production involved). All that said, yes, I'd love to start recording again, if there is enough interest to warrant all the time put forth by our guru, Fybrile. & GothicSyn, I love your idea. One of my personal favorite things to do was have special guests.
Turn the whole process informal or less stressed would then in theory make it seem less work but should also drive engagement if you build the show around the interview of a player (sounds silly the way I have put it) but every week would be different as no two players experiences are ever the same. And the more you do it should draw more in I doubt there is a shortage of people who'd spend an hour talking with you guys. Do hear you on the editing process though, I do it for my YouTube Channel and usually by the end of it I'm just glad to see the back of that video. Even twitch can seem like an effort sometimes especially my slower streams. Still you do get those that just knock it out of the park and everything just seems so much more worth it. You'd need to have the production there but if it wasn't about the production and rather the conversations you're having that would make it more worthwhile? Either that or I just typed a whole load of stuff without a clue as to what I'm trying to say!
it warms my heart to be mentioned. here's to the echo & hopes towards the future! --- Double Post Merged, Jul 2, 2016, Original Post Date: Jul 2, 2016 --- honestly most of this comes from interaction. or rather the lack there of. do you have plenty to say? yes? would you rather talk to a wall or to people? as an avid listener turned host, i can see the difference. if you would like to hear the sultry voice of fybrile or the random rantings of the other hosts.. let us know. yelling at a wall is no fun. we need feedback. engage. express. tell us what you want to hear. period. ps. sorry for the punctuation.
The FFXIV community is a tough crowd to get talking. There's a lot of people who listen/read but never speak up no matter how much we try to encourage them. People are nervous they'll say something stupid (like the rest of us do in every other one of our posts) or just don't think they'll be taken seriously. The Echo was great, only thing it was missing was fans interactions. One thing I'd like to see more present in the podcast is a familiarity with current content, whether it's the new casual content or the hardcore.
Heh, suggestions. At this stage in the game, they're pretty superfluous. If there was one thing we could get, it was suggestions. They're simple and cheap and don't always lead to a better product. We said originally that we would keep doing it so long as it was fun for us. When we stopped, it was because it was no longer fun for us. If we ever reboot it, its because it we think it'll be fun. The Achilles heel of the Echo was that we sought out community involvement. IMO, those were the weak episodes or segments. When we we're doing what we thought was fun, it really showed through. When you're doing something you like, it makes a better product. When you're trying to follow directions from people that may or may not be that invested in you to begin with, you'll just be lead astray and make lacklustre crap. Trying to involve the community was the worse idea. It just doesn't work. No one raised their hand, especially consistently enough to make a series about it. If we do it again, it'll be for selfish reasons, because it's fun for us. It's not monetized, so were pretty free to just have fun. And, if we are having fun, I think that will show through in the final product, and make it more enjoyable to listen to.
I want to have fun again... I have stuffs to share & I love talking about this game. I don't have many people irl to talk to about it (1 whole person who doesn't even play any more) and the podcast gave me the opportunity to share & enjoy. The price for this might be too high, tho. I'd be more than willing to do more with the production end if you'll allow it, Fyb!
